American Cancer Society - Relay for Life
According to the American Cancer Society’s “Cancer Facts and Figures 2005”, cancers of the lung, breast, colon, and prostate are the most commonly diagnosed cancers in Alabama. It is estimated that “24,320 new cancer cases and 10,100 cancer deaths will occur in Alabama this year”. Each year the employees here at Perdido Bay Water participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life to raise money for the cancer patients in our community going through trying times. Our goal for this year was to raise $1000.00 and we raised a record breaking $1300.00. Along with the monetary donations, we donated 3 beautiful hats for the patients that visit the Cancer Society in Fairhope, along with a box full of items that were needed at the Hope Lodge. The Hope Lodge is located in Birmingham and provides housing free of charge on a first-come, first- served basis to cancer patients and their families during their course of treatment. Our team name/theme this year was “Lost Bay Saloon”, taking out cancer one shot at a time. We won the award for “Best Team Theme” which includes the campsite, decorations, and costumes etc. Officially, fundraising for the 2008 Relay does not start until November, however, we do fundraising year round. Currently at our office we have cookie jars and candy bars for sale. For holidays we make gift baskets and can customize them to include items of your liking. All proceeds from the fundraising are donated to the American Cancer Society and stay in South Baldwin to help people in our local community. If you would like to donate items for the Hope Lodge and/or hats for the cancer patients please contact Dawn(team captain) at dawn@perdidobaywater.com or call our office at (251)987-5816. We are always looking for new FUNdraising ideas! We appreciate the support from our customers and are looking forward to the 2008 Relay. Water Carnival

On Thursday April 26, 2007; approximately 127 third grade students from seven classes at Elberta Elementary School participated in a Water Carnival that was sponsored by the Perdido Bay Water, Sewer and Fire Protection District. Students participated in activities, experiments and demonstrations such as making eatable aquifers, conducting filtration experiments, building a water cycle model and watching ground water models. The purpose of the Carnival was to educate the children about protecting our ground water. Representatives from the Perdido Bay Water, Sewer and Fire Protection District, Alabama Department of Environmental Management and Alabama Rural Water Association helped make the day a huge hit with the students and teachers as well.
